So if you planted sometimes in late March, your garden should be about ready to reap some of your harvest. And something we have every year are sunflowers. This is a time you can teach your kids how to make crafts with the things they have planted.

You can let them pick them and put them in bouquets or you can take the small ones and press them. My little one likes to tear them in small pieces and glue them to a piece of paper. If you wait a little bit longer you can even eat the sunflower seeds or dry them and save them for bird food. Be creative and get messy!

Don’t forget to get ready to Celebrating the National Day of the Child which is June 12, 2016. Make you kid feel extra special this year. Just take some time for them, this is all they ask!

FUN FACT:  The sunflower is one of many plants that  aid in “phytoremediation,” a process that employs a plant to remove, transfer, stabilize, and / or destroy contaminants in the soil, water and air.
